It is important to note our due diligence in researching genealogical records such as journals, newspaper articles, and vital records in order to accumulate as comprehensive an understanding of the ancestor’s story as possible. We focused our efforts on searching for first-person accounts in order to quote the ancestor whose story we wrote. However, when no first-person documents were recorded, we made every attempt to preserve the essence of the ancestor’s story using second-person documentation as well as sociocultural contexts. We exercised creative license where needed.
