It is important to note our due diligence in researching genealogical records such as journals, newspaper articles, and vital records in order to accumulate as comprehensive an understanding of the ancestor’s story as possible. We focus our efforts on searching for first-person accounts in order to quote the ancestor whose stories we write. However, in situations where no first-person documents have been recorded or found, we make every attempt to preserve the essence of the ancestor’s story using second-person documentation as well as sociocultural context. We exercise creative license where needed.
